MIXING EPOXY – STIRRING
Epoxy is a two-component product, meaning it consists of two parts: a base and a hardener. When the base and hardener are mixed, a chemical reaction begins and the epoxy starts to cure.
For this reason, it is important to spread the epoxy on the floor as quickly as possible so that it does not begin to generate heat and cure in the container. Epoxy produces a significant amount of heat when left in a bucket after the base and hardener have been mixed. Therefore, it is essential to distribute the epoxy promptly.
When mixing the epoxy, start by stirring the base (the component containing the color). This ensures that pigments and fillers are evenly distributed. When left standing, fillers and pigments may settle at the bottom and must be thoroughly mixed before adding the hardener.
Once the hardener has been added, mix the entire compound thoroughly for 2–3 minutes, preferably using a mechanical mixer. It is also important to scrape the sides and bottom of the container to ensure that no unmixed base remains.
